Dress for the job you don't have

This all started with the best Christmas present I ever gave my husband - a tan Carhartt jacket. He opened it on Christmas to many “oooohs” from everyone around the tree. I ate this up, of course. Everyone wants to be “the best gift giver”. Then he wore this jacket everywhere and the compliments just ROLLED IN. It’s like the jacket was covered in magic sauce. So I put it on and you know what – it was AMAZING. And that’s where our story begins. Let’s get into it!

Workwear has always inspired fashion. High waisted pants? Thank the sailors for your snatched waist. Gold buttons? Soldiers. Racing stripes? Boat neck? Throw out a fashion reference, it probably comes from a job. How to style it:

Incorporate these into your daily look and bring a little ruggedness to your regular winter programming;

1. Layer a chunky sweater (code ABBYARAD15) under the Carhartt jacket and pair with jeans, socks and boots.

2. White turtleneck (my current favorite here and it’s on sale), denim shirt, plaid jacket, brown pants (or these corduroys).

Ahoy! The trend predictors have declared “Fisherman core” will be a key aesthetic of 2025, but the common denominators of maritime chic are timeless. Whether you’re ready to go full matey or just dip a toe this one is cute and conveniently warm.

How to style it:

Pair these beloved Amazon khakis (I have these in multiple colors - stretchy and so good) with a striped shirt, cableknit sweater and boat shoes with socks

This one gets 10/10 for ease of use. Jumpsuits? Sturdy fabrics? Check check. I read in one of the thousand IN/OUT lists for 2025 that obscure totes were the new logo bags and I couldn’t agree more. I love the limited edition one from Nickey Kehoe pictured above, also this or this!
