Low lift styling tips to avoid boring outfits

I read that line in

Leandra Medine Cohen

’s Substack this week (she was describing these boots). It reminded me of all the things I once found hideous (Ugg boots, jelly sandals) and now can’t imagine a world without. I’m applying that open mindedness to styling this week, in the interest of dialing up the visual interest on some very basic outfit formulas. As they say at my kid’s preschool, “It’s not that you don’t like tomatoes. You don’t like tomatoes YET”. Let’s get into it!

Exhibit A: The tied sweater

Never have I ever… tied a sweater around my waist while wearing a coat. But I will now! This Agolde Coat above, and recreating the look with this Uniqlo sweater around the waist, Alex Mill jeans, and these Jcrew loafers

Never have I ever… owned a shoulder scarf. Until today! (this would also would make a great gift) Paired it with this Toteme leather coat, and these Zara loafers

Exhibit B: Colored Tights

Pro tip - colored tights are the easiest path to a holiday outfit. You don’t need anything covered in sequins - pair a dress you have with festive tights and GO.

Do you shop for a guy in your life? I’ve been pulling from Todd Snyder for my clients for years and recently got this sweater for my husband. He would rather die than model a pic for me but it’s a beautiful sweater. Let me know if men’s finds are interesting and I’ll share more.
