If you’re a fashion enthusiast, you know Mickey Drexler. Doubly so if you grew up in the ‘90s and lived through the glory age of the Gap, the Jenna era of J.Crew, and the arrival of Old Navy at your mall. I had the incredible privilege of sitting down with Mickey for an interview for this Substack. I tried to talk about fashion, but the conversation didn’t go there. Mickey is more than fashion - he was born with style, as he told me. His path is a perfect example of how creativity is fueled by adversity which, he reminds us, “Is the best driver.” Mickey is now the Chairman of Alex Mill, one of my favorite, easy to wear brands. Frankly, we’re all lucky to have him at the helm of a brand, still turning out timeless fashions. I asked him (twice) about the design process, and how Alex Mill keeps up with the fashion calendar, but he wouldn’t answer that. The answers he gave me instead said 10x more.
